While railroad is a backbone of transportation in the U.S. (and beyond), it's a mode in modern times that doesn't always get its flowers. This episode of The Intermodal Logistics Podcast focuses on an organization meant to keep rail in the conversation at the local, state and Federal levels - GoRail, with guests Betsy Cantwell (AVP of Communications) and Brett Sebastian (State Director).
Betsy and Brett discuss the origins of GoRail, how it and freight rail transport as an industry have evolved over the past two decades, and why advocacy is so important. Plus, they go over GoRail's legislative priorities, including protecting grant funding, balancing the Highway Trust Fund to reflect railroad's self-funding, and safe rail crossings. They also take us through cross-border issues, how a local issue quickly becomes a national one, and how an organization of ten amplifies its message throughout communities.
